Government Holiday Thaipoosam Festival
The Festival of Thaipoosam is one of the most popular festivals celebrated in Tamil Nadu in honour of Lord Murugan, the Tamil god. Not only in Tamil Nadu, but also in the state of Puducherry in Kerala, this festival is celebrated. Also celebrated in Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Malaysia is Thaipusam.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that the public demanded that the Thaipusam Festival be given a public holiday in Tamil Nadu when visiting different districts. In the light of this appeal, I have ordered that the Thaipusam Festival to be held on 28 January be proclaimed a public holiday and that the Thaipusam Festival be added in future years to the list of public holidays.
